ABOUT US

The tranquil splendour and breathtaking views are the main attractions at Matopo Ingwe Lodge, which first opened in 1992. The Matopo Hills are a scenic area of granite whalebacks and castle kopjes, combining ancient and recent history with abundant wildlife and scenic views to offer you a relaxing getaway from city life. The hills also hold numerous rock paintings that depict animal and human figures that date back to the Early Stone Age which can be observed at Matopo Ingwe Lodge.

The hills lie 30 kms from Bulawayo,  known as the "City of Kings", and cover some 300 kms. Matopo Ingwe Lodge is built in the midst of a beautiful valley with the main complex set atop a flat hill, giving a breathtaking view of the landscape. Only from our property can visitors get a good view of the Great Dyke, a line of rocky hills of volcanic origin believed to be 200 million years old and stretching all the way to the Midlands. Visitors have a chance to see the majestic landscape from atop our lookout terrace or from the comfort of our bar and dining areas.

The Lodge is a short drive from Malindidzimu, also known as the "Hill of the Ancestral Spirits", a national historical monument situated in the Matobo National Park and where Cecil J Rhodes is buried. One can also visit the Nswatugi Caves which hold a wonderful legacy of rock paintings, which the San people left behind.
