Located approximately 30 km from Bulawayo, known as the “City of Kings,” the Matopo Hills cover an area of approximately 300 km². The Hills are a scenic area of extraordinary granite formation, shaped over millions of years. Rich in both ancient and recent history, the hills are home to abundant wildlife, spectacular views, and rock paintings from the Early Stone Age, making them an ideal destination for a relaxing escape from city life.

 

Matopo Ingwe Lodge, which first opened in 1992, is nestled in the midst of a beautiful valley, with the main complex situated atop a flat hill that offers breathtaking views of the Great Dyke and surrounding landscape. It is situated beside Matobo National Park, which is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife and bird species, including black and white rhinos, sable antelopes, impalas, and leopards.

 

We are also a short drive from Malindidzimu, known as the “Hill of the Ancestral Spirits,” a national historical monument within the National Park and the burial site of Cecil John Rhodes.Visitors can also explore the Nswatugi Caves, which contain a remarkable collection of ancient rock paintings left behind by the San people. These paintings offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage.​
